Tenure track positions at Donostia/San Sebastian

in Quantum Simulation and Computation with Ultracold Atoms in Tweezers

Opening 2026

A unique and exciting new adventure is starting right now in San Sebastian (Basque Country, Spain) at the Donostia International Physics Center (DIPC)

The DIPC is opening a new quantum-gas research activity with a laboratory already highly equipped to develop the next generation programmable optical tweezer setup with ultracold dysprosium to perform beyond state-of-the-art quantum simulation, quantum computation and quantum information processing.

This initiative is part of a strong collaboration between DIPC and the University of Innsbruck (Austria), fostering a dynamic exchange of expertise. As the experiment is still in its formative stage, you will have the rare opportunity to shape its development, contribute original ideas, and acquire hands-on experience across the full experimental stack—from laser cooling and trapping to high-resolution imaging and Rydberg excitation.

Related to this new research line, the DIPC invite applications for two Tenure-Track Research positions as Ikerbasque Research Fellows to join the tweezer lab in San Sebastian at DIPC. This research activities will be performed in close collaboration with our group at the University of Innsbruck and the Institute of Quantum Optics and Quantum Information of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and will strongly benefit from synergies with local theory groups.

The Ikerbasque fellows will lead the scientific and technical development of this cutting-edge quantum experiment and will be strongly involved in defining the scientific strategy. Both positions are open to researchers with more than 2 years of experimental post-doc experience in the field of ultracold quantum gases. The deadline for applications is the 27.03.2026.

HOW TO APPLY?

Interested candidates should submit a single PDF including:

  • A motivation letter describing their experience, research interests, and expectations. The letter should also include their preferred and earliest possible start date.
  • A detailed CV including both a max. of 3 highlighted Publications (1–3) with Short Context and a full list of publications.
  • A brief summary of relevant experimental expertise. The PDF should also include the names and contact information of two referees.
