The Winter School will Run Twice

Due to a very high level of demand, we have decided to run the winter school twice during the week from the 6th to 12th of February 2022. The first group will arrive in Innsbruck on Sunday 6th February and the school will conclude in the evening of Wednesday 9th February. The second group will arrive on Wednesday 9th February and will finish the school’s activities on Saturday 12th February.

Please refer to the revised program page for more information on the new schedule for the winter school.

We will be contacting successful application soon and will confirm which dates they will be attending the winter school.

Welcome to our Introductory Course on Ultracold Quantum Gases!

Sunday 6th to Wednesday 9th and Thursday 10th to Saturday 12th February 2022

Our Winter school will give a basic introduction into the fascinating research field of cold atoms and ultracold quantum gases, which offers many exciting research opportunities for young researchers.

Twelves lectures given by experts from Innsbruck, Heidelberg, Wien and Trento will cover the basic concepts of laser cooling and trapping, Bose-Einstein condensation, ultracold Fermi gases, ultracold molecules, strongly correlated quantum gases, and optical lattices. In addition, students will be given the opportunity to visit state-of-the-art laboratories at the University of Innsbruck and the Institute of Quantum Optics and Quantum Information (IQOQI).

The course is aimed at students finishing their bachelor degree or early in their master program and first year PhD students. Specialized knowledge in the field is not required; students should have a basic knowledge of quantum physics and atomic, molecular, and optical physics at the undergraduate level.

The Winter School will take place twice (see below) in Innsbruck, Austria from Sunday 6th to Saturday 12th February 2022. It is organized by Francesca Ferlaino, Rudolf Grimm, and Hanns-Christoph Nägerl with administrative support from Silvia Bonazza.
