The Dipolar Team

The Dipolar Quantum Gas group has been established in late 2009 thanks to an ERC Starting Grant, a START Prize, and the generous support of our Institute and of the Center for Ultracold Atoms and Quantum Gases.

Back in 2009, we started the ERBIUM project with a small group: Francesca, Albert, and Rudi. Over the years the group enlarged and few years later, in 2017, we started a second experiment: the ER-DY project, located at IQOQI and partially supported by an ERC Consolidator Grant. In 2019, we opened a new research line on Rydberg tweezer arrays with the establishment of the T-Reqs project and we established a THEORY team within our group in close collaboration with the group of Russell Bisset. Our newest lab, the Dy-Yb project,  is currenty under construction – this new experimental apparatus will be used to study many-body phases of highly-magnetic dysprosium and of mixtures with non-magnetic ytterbium.
