This year, from 6.-9. September 2016, the third edition of the workshop on ‘Long-range interactions in the ultracold’, took place in Ercolano (Naples, IT). Since the event was organised by Francesca (together with Antoine Browaeys and Robert Löw), the whole team joined in for the event, rented a Minibus and drove all the way down to southern Italy.
Back in 2009, the Erbium experiment was starting with funding from the Austrian academy of science (through an FWF START-price) and an ERC Starting grant. Since the START price is now expired, the FWF send a Camera team to our lab for a short video. You can watch it here:
Now in Science! In collaboration with the theory colleagues in Innsbruck (Zoller, Baranov, Cai), we have realized and studied the extended Bose-Hubbard Model with dipolar Er atoms and studied how the superfluid-to-Mott-insulator transition is modified under the influence of the anisotropic and long-range dipole-dipole interaction. The Young Atom Opticians (YAO) conference is a yearly meeting, organized by and for PhD candidates in the field of atomic, molecular and optical physics. This year it took place in Munich (http://www.yao-conference.org/), and the 2017 edition will take place in Paris.
