PhD Openings 2027

PhD Opening 2027 in our Theory Team

We are seeking a talented and highly motivated PhD student to join our Theory Division and become part of the dipolar quantum gases group at the University of Innsbruck and the Institute for Quantum Optics and Quantum Information (www.iqoqi.at), Innsbruck, Austria. This position offers the opportunity to work at the forefront of theoretical research in quantum many-body physics within a vibrant and internationally recognized scientific environment.

Current opening:

Theo-PhD@Theory Group

  • Numerical simulation of dipolar many-body systems using the Gross-Pitaevskii-equation including beyond-mean-field effects
  • Dipolar many-body phases and quantum phase transitions in the bulk
  • Dipolar quantum mixtures

HOW TO APPLY:

We are looking forward to your application! If you are interested, send an email to Ferlaino-Opening@uibk.ac.at, including a C.V., a letter of motivation, transcript of exams (Bachelor and Master), and names of at least one reference person. Applicants should hold a Master’s degree in Physics or a closely related field, with a solid academic background in quantum mechanics and atomic physics, demonstrated through relevant coursework. Ideally, candidates should have completed a Master’s thesis in a research area related to the topics of this call, such as ultracold quantum gases, quantum many-body physics, or computational quantum physics. Previous experience with numerical simulations and computational methods would be considered an advantage.

Our group is strongly committed to ameliorate the gender balance in Physics at all level of the scientific career, we therefore particularly encourage applications from women.

We offer a gross salary for these positions in accordance with the salary scales of the Austrian Science Fund (FWF), corresponding to a monthly gross salary of €2,832.10, paid 14 times per year.

Review of applications will start on 5th November 2026 and continue until the position is filled.
